A Comic(al) Review

Okay, so the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull discussion has been adequately covered. See: Yesterday.

But I wanted to talk about my personal viewing experience real quick. I saw the film opening night at a midnight screening. It's been ages since I've seen a premiere at midnight.
The great thing about these premieres is the eclectic crowd of lovable losers in attendance. The midnighter (as I call them) is the only film screening to concentrate so many super-nerds in one place.
When I say super-nerd, I don't mean the hip-nerds with the geek chic and the ironic shirts; I mean the crazy weirdos that make it their mission to be the first guy to complain about a movie online. The dude that wears a Universal Studios t-shirt as a statement. The guy that catalogs continuity errors and documents them on IMDB. And to see them all in one place makes for an entertaining experience.

The super-nerd is almost always male. Nine tenths of the audience at the midnighter was dudes. The social groups I saw reminded me of mine in high school. 5-7 awkward guys and 1 sort of pretty girl that happens to hang out with them. She might even be dating one of them. Maybe.

The super-nerd is always vocal of his opinions. If the trailer for The Dark Knight looks freaking sweet, he will yell that out. If Kung Fu Panda looks like crap, there is no end to the cynicism. Usually, though, the super-nerd enjoys being negative, preferably after a period of anticipation. See: The aftermath of those crappy Star Wars prequels.

Right after the film ended, the comments began. I decided to document my favorite:
Hah, oh, super-nerd. You are hilarious.

P.S. I'm grateful for the dudes that fill up the trivia/goofs sections on IMDB. I love that stuff.

P.P.S. I still really liked the movie (but I haven't seen Iron Man yet.)

Hahahaha, Chuck! Wait, is that the name of that show? They may want to reconsider re-naming it because Chuck Bass is Chuck now, not that guy.

Did that Indiana Jones guy really wear a "Han Shot First" shirt? That's amazing.

Greedo shot first! George Lucas's "refined" vision of history is his true one. Han is a hero; not some rebel scum whose journey to nobility we must endure through a trilogy of movies.

    F Greedo!

don't they shoot together? i mean, isn't that always the goal? to shoot at the same time?

(sorry for this, but the groaner of a joke has to continue)

besides, when you revise a movie to change your original vision, it doesn't matter who shoots first -- everyone gets screwed anyway

    (har har har)

Geeze I had no idea what Star Wars geeks we had in the Blogulator community! I like the original movies just fine and I thought that was the general consensus around these parts, but I didn't catch the Han Solo reference in Indy and now I didn't know what this Greedo vs. Han debate was either (looked it up, no need to fill me in)...the only thing I knew about the updates was the dumb CGI he added in that made the movies feel super awkward(though to admit something, the dumb updates were my introduction to Star Wars in the first place...).

i first saw the star wars movies with Qualler. Tee hee :) love you!!

great post, by the way. i never understood that 5-7 super nerdy guys and one kind of pretty girl group make up, myself, but it seems to be a pattern...

yeah, Chuck is hardly a super-nerd. that picture is misleading

    Y'all are geeks!

I'll admit that the dumb updates were pretty much my introduction as well, but I transformed my late arrival into Star Wars playing cards, books, and a knock-off "Star Trooper" t-shirt that I wore to school once before realizing how fat it made me look.

Yeah, Chuck is one of the new "cool" nerds - like the Mac and whatnot.

Have you guys seen the clip of Han grabbing Princess Leah's boob outside of the imperial base whatever the hell on Endor? With the revelation that they knocked tauntauns on set... so hot.

That boob grab was referenced in one of my Star Wars "nonfiction" books, so middle-school-me searched it out and loved it.

Oola (Jabba's slavedancer) also falls out of her dress before falling to the rancor.

And Tatooine has two moons! Hot.
