Sofia Coppola Loves Pretty Stuff (A Marie Antoinette Mini-Review)

So The Blogulator, among others (such as Brigitte, who should update her blog even if she's not in Paris) attended a screening of Marie Antoinette this past weekend, and I must say, it is the prettiest movie of the year. This film fits in with the pattern of Sofia Coppola movies being full of pretty stuff and devoid of much substance. But when she casts Kirsten Dunst, Scarlett Johannson, and Kirsten Dunst in her movies, she's got somethin' going on pretty well. And lets face it, when you mix Versailles Gardens, puppies, Jason Schwartzmann in a powder wig and a straight-face, puppies, adorable-as-eff French children, hipster music, orchestral music, comfy-looking-beds, lots of cake and champagne, and a group of rioting French people coming to burn the palace down to tha motha-effin' groundz, you have the formula for a movie that doesn't even need a script to succeed.

Congratulations, Sofia Coppola, you made a geniusly devoid movie.

Qualler's rating: **** (out of 4)

I agree--fabulously pretty movie. I had a lot of fun going with you guys. Also, way to go finding one of the nakedest stills not featuring a full-on view of La Dunst's butt. I appreciate not having to come face-to-face with that when checking the Blogulator.

Man, remember when Kirsten Dunst was naked like three timesin that movie?

When I think about that, I can't imaginge how I won't buy this movie and a second TV just to play it on a loop.

I believed when asked what I thought about the movie, I answered "I hated it."

I should clear that up. I didn't hate it. I didn't even really dislike it. In fact, I loved the first half hour. I just needed a little more substance. Indeed it was a beautiful film, but the aesthetics only took it so far, in my opinion.

Regardless, I am loving the spurt of activity on the Blogulator. Keep it up!
