Painful Reality

Hello out there in the blogosphere! I’ve been a bit lax in reporting on America’s Next Top Model, mostly because I’ve been kind of bored with this cycle so far. But in the last two episodes Tyra and the rag tag crew of ladies have totally recaptured my interests!

First, a brief recap from last week: the horse face girl got sent home.

Now that that’s out of the way, on to this week’s episode!

In a posing session with Tyra (and of course the girls were surprise to see that Tyra was their secret couch for this session, because apparently they constantly forget that Tyra Banks is on this show…and so each time squeal with delight at the shock of seeing such a celebrity), the girls practiced their walking until: oh no! Tyra sprains her ankle! For a dramatic minute we all held our breath in suspense…was Tyra OK?? The music and several replays made us think that a real accident had occurred and this episode would take a turn for the dramatic. Turns out, she was just acting! She had only pretended to sprain her ankle in order to teach the girls about posing as if they were in pain…totally normal, right? Because the most beautiful woman is after all a woman in pain. Or dead. Dead would be even better. But for now we’ll settle for pain. She asked the girls to portray all kinds of pain…such as:

Menstrual pain….pain from working out too hard….pain from their sisters having slammed their fingers in the door…and pain from playing patty cake all day with little kids. Ouch! My hands hurt!

Anya, the girl who talks kind of like she has an accent (though I think she’s actually just talking really slowly) won the posing challenge, and her prize was a one-on-one shoot with Nigel Barker (again, someone the girls seem surprised and delighted to see at their photo shoots, even though he’s a judge…and on the show each week…come on people!) She “got to” pose naked in a bed, modestly covering up any indecencies. Said Nigel, “It’ll be a lot of fun.” Eeeeeee….For a naked photo shoot, this was pretty blah, and hardly even worth reporting.
For the photo shoot this week (the photographer looked like an Australian stereotype from a Disney movie), the contestants all posed as different kinds of music…including metal/rock, emo (Ms. Jay said of the emo photo “So, this is white music?”), pop, country, punk, folk, house, R&B, grunge (the “plus-sized” girl did this one) …and of course the punk girl who claimed to be “very anti mainstream” and has “spent her life avoiding pop music,” only listening to “really underground punk rock” had to pose as pop. She had never heard a Britney Spears song! Shock! She’s so alternative that she’s totally the most awkward contestant on this CW reality show!

In the end, the plus-sized contestant was called first at the judging, and the Mormon girl no one cared about, Aimee, got sent home. I have to say, this blogger is getting pretty excited about this cycle, since if ever a plus sized contestant had a chance of winning it might be this season…however the previews for next week show her getting yelled at for being a size 10, so maybe her confidence will finally be shaken and she’ll be sent home for some reason that totally has nothing to do with her size…because being a model is actually about confidence, and inner beauty, right?

Earlier this week I caught another stellar CW reality show, Girlicious, in which one contestant said how she felt close to God and grateful for her musical gift, and of course one way to use her gift for God is to become a member of a band called Girlicious.

Stay tuned for the newest CW reality show, Farmer Wants a Wife (this is not a joke, it’s a real show)! I’ve decided to counter this with my own competing show, The Cheese Stands Alone, in which I will be eating cheese, alone, in my apartment.

Speaking of the Farmer in the Dell, I’m totally getting on board this whole The Wire train! I’m half way through the first season, and I’m hooked. What a show! Not just another police drama (as I might have been heard to say about the series a few months ago, having started watching it in Season 2, not caring about any of the characters or plotlines, and not understanding just what was so great about The Wire). Now, I have to say, it’s probably the best things I’ve seen on television in awhile.

And the best thing I’ve seen on the internet in awhile? Why, the Blogulator, of course! Go to http://polls.citypages.com/bestof08/ to vote for the best local blog! Blogulator forever!

Each picture you post of Tyra gets scarier and scarier. And that Australian dude looks like a lizard!

that's actually a picture of nigel barker...not the guest photographer from last night's episode...but yes, he does look like a lizard. and i did think this was a scary picture of tyra...

Haha did you edit it? Cuz it looks like she's literally creeping out from behind The Blogulator about to bite us.

I wish I could have seen what "emo" looked like in fashion form! And hear Ms. Jay or Tyra or someone say "emo." Man, you have this DVR'd, right?

Yowzerinos, that's frightening. Possibly even more frightening? The racist and pro-violence comments below that article, presumably coming from Americans.

In the video, he says that emo is for kids who are 15, emotional, and want a movement; they're not interested in the music as much as belonging. I think the reason it's such a big deal is a cultural difference in the evolution of male architypes in Mexico that extends into music...

The Farmer Wants a Wife! Now that The Wire is through, is Omar going to whistle the theme song of this show? I hope so.

yes, he is actually going to be hosting the show...and each eliminated farmer's wife gets shot. by him. because it turns out they're actually drug dealers.

Quoth Cambria during the menstrual cramps demonstration: "This is totally going to be on The Soup this week."

I'm surprised you didn't mention the big DoMANique/Claire-Whitney-Lauren showdown this week. Cambria's all, "I like Claire because she's so above all the drama," but the editors really called bullshit on that this week. I do not like DoMANique at all, but seriously? Talking shit about her, telling each other about their previous argument with her when they were all there and so were we so a recap was not necessary, while she was in the room was pretty low. And next week, Lauren goes even ape-shittier, this time on Fatima, who I also dislike, but still? Grow up ladies. Claire's sort of a terrible role model for her daughter. And the CHILDREN of AMERICA.

She's a terrible role model for you and I, too! Haha I will watch The Soup on the DVR this week to see their recap -- I'm sure it will be great. I also hope they discuss Tyra and her seemingly unending insanity that just keeps getting worse, culminating in this week's pretend getting injured.

i actually did wrote about the Domanique/claire thing (i hate both of them) but ended up cutting it out because my post was already getting a bit long...this episode really was packed full of drama, which is a shift from recent, somewhat boring episodes. it makes me excited for what's to come in...and even though i hate claire, i'm kinda glad she didn't get kicked off, just so the drama can continue (i'm a bad, bad person).

also, i like doMANique...i'm totally calling her that from now on.
