Real Housewives! And, other new beginnings

Tomorrow (Monday) Monday, May 16, 2011, at 10/9pm CST is the premiere of the newest season of the Real Housewives of New Jersey, and boy am I excited! My favorite bunch of housewives will be minus one Danielle (the super villain from last season) and plus two new little spit fires that are sure to cause some serious drama. Way to go, Andy Cohen!

Today (Sunday) Bravo aired an all day marathon of last season's RHNJ, just in case I wasn't pumped up enough already. I love the housewives, all the housewives, but New Jersey is by far my favorite. I think what I like about these ladies over the other housewives is their willingness to get physical. They are some no bullsh** ladies. They won't just talk about you behind your back, they won't just passive aggressively fight with you at a dinner party. They'll really fight with you, even physically. I like that. I mean, I would never, ever, want to cross one of them, but I like that they'll fight with each other. I can watch safely from my couch and feel just a little bit superior while doing it. It's a good feeling. Thanks again, Bravo.

Also premiering this week is the newest season of 16 and Pregnant. It airs Tuesday night at 9pm central (opposite what promises to be a heart wrenching episode of Parenthood, but don't worry, they re-air the episode at 10pm so you can catch both shows). I'm excited to see what this new cast of girls has in store and hope it won't be too depressing. Interestingly, the promo I saw this afternoon on MTV said something about tuning in to watch a new group of girls "beat the odds." I'm not really sure what that means, or in what way these girls are beating the odds. I thought it sort of went against the cautionary stance that MTV was taking with this show. I guess none of the girls is doing really terribly, because that would be too hard for viewers to take...but I'm not clear on what odds they're beating. Maybe I'm just a cynic; did anyone out there in blogger land see this show as an uplifting tale of teen moms beating the odds and succeeding despite getting pregnant at 16?

Both the teen moms and the housewives will surely make me feel just a little bit sad this week, but I cannot wait to watch them on Tuesday and Monday nights!

By "beat the odds" I think they mean that despite having to deal with a baby at 16, at least MTV pays their diaper bill for a while.

Can't wait to read your new coverage of these shows so I don't have to watch 'em, Brigitte!
